I grew up in Lander, Wyoming, next to the Wind River Mountains and Wind River Indian Reservation. I attended the University of Wyoming where I completed my B.A. in English, Secondary Certification Requirements for grades 7 – 12, and earned my M.A. in English. My university is the OTHER UW.
I moved to Wisconsin in 1983 and have been teaching at Jefferson Middle School for the past 19 years, and I currently teach Eighth Grade Language Arts Writing. Working with eighth graders is wonderful because they are willing to try new ideas in the classroom and want to have fun with learning.
My husband and I live in the country with our two cats. Our own children were students in this district not too long ago. I know the Jefferson School District provides an education that allows students to achieve their dreams because my children were able to attend the colleges of their choice. Our son graduated from Beloit College and our daughter graduated from DePaul University in Chicago.
Overall, this practicum has taught me so much about individualizing students’ learning along with adapting lessons to adhere to the needs of those in my class. I have been required to think quickly on my toes in order to see students succeed. All in all, I will be taking lots of new knowledge away from this special practicum experience.
